The first Datsun was released in the United States in the fall of 1969 more Nissan Datsun 280z. It combined strong performance with good looks. Sales of the 280Z reached over 45,000 units in its first year. In 1970, the 280Z's production began and continued until December 1974, when the 280Z was released. The 280Z was introduced with an improved engine and increased displacement to 2.6 L. The new engine produced 154 horsepower in most areas of the US, but it was eventually lowered to 139 horsepower.
